Mike's site easily meets both requirements for this award.
His site is easy to navigate, has lots of scans that you can get
permission to use. The majority of XWP artists owe a huge debt to his
work/site. He has many beautiful walls on display to inspire you. Most of
all if you need some assistance, he is a great help when you are just
starting out. Without his help, I would not have opened my site. Many

Tane's site had some beautiful graphics, but I must sadly annouce that his site is closed. He qualifies fo this award due to all his work with the ABMX-H news group (alt.binaries.multimedia.xena-herc). He coordinated the bi-weekly challenge for the news group. The challenge helps everyone in the group to stretch their skills by trying something new. Besides, he is an all around nice guy, willing to help the new artist. Cheers Tane and thanks. |

Xena Artist Collective sent me this wonderful award. If you look at the sample entries below or even better, go to the Xena Artist Collective and look at the entries, you will see why this award was a surprise. The competion was very stiff. I admit this is one of the few contests that I did a VERY serious entry. The contest was to create a poster based on of Steve Sears episodes. The winner would get a copy of their poster printed and signed by Steve. I am so lucky!

The challenge was elements earth wind fire. It was a difficult challenge. There are several problems with this piece. The blends are not good the center is to blobbie. The text was fun to make. It was an intersting idea that was poorly executed. |

With this award Honorable Mention, the theme for this award was Minor Character. It appears to be a simple blend image at first glance. I was trying to add detail/texture to the dominate image but removed it from the face and arms. Originally I was going to put a skull on the soft background face so that the dominate image and the background were tied together but I became timid and stopped before I "finished" the thought. |

2nd place this time. The full length image was originally 3 images that I combined. I have been asked what filter I used for this effect. I only used the tools available in PSP8. As you know the effects vary, it just depends on the image. Here is basically what I did: I made two new layers of the original image. On one new layer I used the pencil effect. I used the Topography effect on a new layer to give the image texture, removed the chroma and then played arounded with the blends (screen) until it looked like this. Then I used the mask function to increase the contrast in the shadow areas. I did a lot of hand work to clean up the image where the pencil effect made the image "messy". You can see a little of that if you look closely at the bottom edge of the sword.
