Welcome to the Lucy Lawless Wallpaper Graphics Tutorial
Page
This Lucy graphic started out as an experiment. It was
part of a series of B&W exercises. The result was a nice
surprise to me.
|
The first step is to convert the image
to B&W. An easy way to do this is with the threshold command. If
you do not know how do this check out my tutorial . I also suggest that you save often and save
several versions of your graphic. So if you make a mistake you can
go back to a stage in the image creation that is good. Have fun....
experiment.

I choose this image because at the time
it was the largest Lucy Maximum scan (image was 800 X 600) that I
could find. Dein Lakai created this wall. Check out the site, you
will find beautiful walls here. I always like to start with the
largest scan I can find and shrink the image late if necessary.

After changing the image to B&W, I resized it to 1024 X 768 and
changed the image so that Lucy had bangs. This involved
creating the right side of the face including the eye. I just used
the left eye as a model. I also "erased portions of the image that I
did not want to use. The dot like edge on the outside of the image
was created with the paint brush size at 30 and the Hardness at 13%
the other settings were at 100%. I just used white for the color and
modified the edges. I also moved the image on the page to it's
final placement.
The next step involved some more manual
edits to the image, I expanded some of the hair area. To create the
shadow effect, see the shadow tutorial. I originally tried to select
everything around the face, including the neck area. Because I did
not like the effect I made sure the hair on both sides of the next
would lock out the magic wand selection. Then all I did was a drop
shadow (violet) on the selected area of the image. If your

The final stage was creation of the border. Create it as a separate
layer because it will be easier to manipulate. If your are not sure
how to make this border check out the Border Tutorial or create your
own.
After you have created the Border you will notice that
portions of it are "erased" . For the simple lines (without color)
near the bottom, just use the erase tool. The portions
that degrade away in dots, use the same method that was
used to make dots along the image. Change the brush to 13% density
and the rest of the settings to 100%. I like the brush to be size 30
for this job but change it to suite your tastes. That is all there
is to it.
Merge the layers and save as a general format
(.jpg, .bmp, .gif....) so that others can enjoy your
work.
